Mónica Bugallo Appointed as Interim Vice President for Research and Innovation

I am pleased to announce that Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Staff Development Mónica Bugallo will serve as interim vice president for research and innovation, effective January 1, 2026.
Mónica has served as vice provost since January 2021 and also served as acting and then interim provost from December 2021 to July 2022. Prior to joining the Office of the Provost, Mónica served as associate dean for diversity and outreach in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and as the inaugural faculty director of the Women In Science and Engineering (WISE) Honors Program from 2016 to 2022. She is a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and has authored or coauthored two book chapters and more than 250 journal papers and refereed conference articles. She is a senior member of IEEE, an elected member-at-large of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Board of Governors, and has an extensive record of professional service, including serving in leadership roles, holding editorial appointments, and organizing major international conferences and workshops. She earned her PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of A Coruña, Spain.
As interim vice president, Mónica will lead the Office for Research and Innovation until the appointment of the next leader, following a national search. Details regarding the search will be shared as soon as the search advisory committee and executive search firm are confirmed.
