Subject: Advisory: Early Departure

Summary: 

Due to expected heavy rainfall, a directed early departure for New York State non-essential personnel is issued for individuals at work in the following counties:  Sullivan, Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Westchester, Nassau, Suffolk and the City of New York (Bronx, New York, Richmond, Kings and Queens Counties).  

This applies to Stony Brook main campus, SB Southampton and SB Manhattan campuses and includes the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Health Professions, School of Social Welfare, and the Dental School and is effective immediately today, Thursday July 31, 2025 beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Individuals are released without charge to leave credits, however those who are working in telecommuting status should continue to work.  Stony Brook University Hospital and the Long Island State Veterans Home will remain open and operating under normal schedules. Please also note, University Hospital and the Long Island State Veterans Home employees are all deemed 'essential' and therefore must report to work according to their normal schedules. Students with clinical obligations should make every effort to attend rotations and contact their clinical coordinators with any questions or concerns. Employees with any questions or concerns should contact their supervisors.
