Congratulations on your recent acceptance into the Stony Brook University SOAR program!
We are excited to have you join us.
You can visit this page for information about FAQs.
Coursework and Job FAQs
No, students cannot take a summer course while participating in SOAR. Students should
not enroll in virtual or asynchronous classes while participating in SOAR.
Students must request permission before accepting additional employment. Jobs should
not interfere with required SOAR events, and should not keep participants from their
required laboratory responsibilities (typically 9-5 on weekdays).
Housing FAQs
There is an additional fee per day for students who want to stay in campus housing
in-between graduation and start of SOAR, and the students are responsible for the
cost. SOAR cannot pay for any additional nights in campus housing outside of the program
dates.
Accepted students should complete the SOAR Housing Requests form to let us know if you need to stay in housing before or after the program dates,
or to let us know if you have any additional housing requests.
Housing does not have storage for student belongings.
Students can check with FedEx, which does long-term storage, but short-term storage
ability is not known at this time. Here is the link to FedEx.
Where possible, housing will try to get the students directly into their fall room
assignments, but this cannot be guaranteed.
We will pass roommate requests to Housing, but the final decisions are made by the
Housing Staff and may not be possible due to logistical reasons.
As of now, SOAR participants will be in a single bedroom within a four or six person
apartment. SOAR participants will all be in West Apartments. (These details are subject
to change depending on housing availability.)
