Business majors:
Accounting Major Requirements
Qualified freshman and transfer students who have indicated their interest in the major on their applications are accepted directly into the major upon admission into the University.
Students who did not apply for the major and those who were not accepted into the major when they entered the University may apply to the major provided that their cumulative grade point average (including, for transfer students, course-work complete at other institutions) is 3.2 or higher.
Applications from current Stony Brook students must be completed and submitted online in accordance with the Registrar’s deadlines from processing major/minor declaration forms.
Students whose applications have been approved will have their records updated automatically.
Business Management Major Requirements

Finance Minor Requirements
Students may apply to the Finance Minor at any time during their academic career provided that their cumulative grade point average is 3.20 or higher.
Non-business majors may complete the Finance Minor.
Students whose applications have been approved will have their records updated automatically.
Real Estate & Insurance Minor Requirements
Students may apply to the Real Estate & Insurance Minor at any time during their academic career provided that their cumulative grade point average is 3.20 or higher.
Business and non-business majors may complete the Real Estate & Insurance Minor.
Students whose applications have been approved will have their records updated automatically.

APPLICATION DEADLINES
Business major / accounting minor / real estate & insurance minor applications are
reviewed on a rolling basis. Time periods for major declarations are set by the Registrar’s
Office each semester.
DENIED APPLICATIONS
Students whose applications for the business major, accounting minor, or real estate
& insurance minor that have been denied can bring up their GPA and apply again in
a future semester.
Students can also consider declaring a major related to business (i.e. Economics) and/or completing an internship in business. Please visit the Career Center for information on completing an internship in business without being a business major.
