Festus Alagbe is a multidisciplinary surreal artist from Nigeria and an MFA candidate in Studio Art at Stony Brook University. Working primarily in painting and drawing, he uses acrylic, oil, charcoal, and wood to explore themes of identity, memory, spirituality, and social experience through symbolic and surreal imagery. Drawing from personal histories, dream states, and African cultural contexts, his work examines the psychological and spiritual dimensions of identity, with a particular focus on the motifs of masks and florals as metaphors for concealment, transformation, and renewal. Alagbe’s work has been featured in international exhibitions and artist residencies, including the Noldor Residency in Accra, Ghana, and has been discussed in publications such as OkayAfrica. He currently serves as an instructor for Drawing at Stony Brook University.
