Brenda Hoffman is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Alan Alda Center for Communicating
Science. She oversees curriculum and assessment for in-person and virtual professional
development programming, working in close partnership with faculty and leadership.
Brenda's research is translational and explores communication training and development in educational and health contexts. Much of her work seeks to improve the quality and continuity of health care and improve health outcomes for patients and communities through improved provider-patient communication and interdisciplinary health care team communication. Her current research focuses on leadership, exploring how interpersonal relationships impact organizations, and the role of communication training programs in improving professional relationships and organizational outcomes.
Since joining the Alda Center in 2017, Brenda has delivered hundreds of Alda Method® programs nationally and internationally, led the development of new programs, and was part of the team that founded the Department of Communication at Stony Brook University. She holds a PhD in Health Communication from George Mason University, an MA in Communication Studies from Texas State University, and a BA in Communication from Bryant University.
