Postdoctoral Associate

The Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science and the Social Competence and Treatment Lab at Stony Brook University jointly seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to advance science communication research and refine scientists’ understanding and application of effective communication skills through training. The Postdoctoral Associate will contribute to research designed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Alda Method®. 

This Postdoctoral Research Associate will be jointly appointed in Dr. Matthew Lerner’s Social Competence and Treatment Lab and the Alda Center. This role will permit the incumbent to integrate into both environments, capitalizing on the skills and resources available in each. Additionally, working in collaboration with Alda Center faculty and staff, the successful candidate will be responsible for conducting new research, analyzing data, and testing curriculum elements in the Alda Center’s on-the-road-workshops, presenting work at conferences, preparing publications, and collaborating on grant proposals. The incumbent will receive support to become Alda Certified Instructor and implement Alda Method® trainings in the U.S. and abroad.

Virginia Sea Grant (VASG) and the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science (Alda Center) at Stony Brook University are excited to announce a joint Postdoctoral Associate in Communicating Science position, with an emphasis on climate change and resilience in coastal communities. Located in the VASG office at William & Mary’s Virginia Institute of Marine Science in Gloucester Point, VA, the Postdoctoral Associate will collaborate closely with the Alda Center, VASG faculty, and staff while periodically traveling to Stony Brook, NY. The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research as well as design, test, and deliver training in the Virginia and mid-Atlantic regions.
