At Columbia, he studies exoplanets that may be suitable for life. Lee Billings is the author of Five Billion Years of Solitude: The Search for Life Among the Stars. A veteran science writer, his articles have appeared in Nature, New Scientist, Popular Mechanics, Scientific American and many other publications. Moderator Robert Lee Hotz is a science writer at the Wall Street Journal and a Distinguished Writer in Residence at the Carter Institute of Journalism at NYU.
