Laura Lindenfeld is Executive Director of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science
and Professor of Communication at Stony Brook University. The Alda Center offers international
leadership in bridging research with practice to advance effective science communication
through training that has reached over 30,000 scientists and health care professionals
worldwide.
Dr. Lindenfeld is passionate about helping the scientific community advance meaningful, productive interactions with communities, shareholders, and decision-makers by strengthening linkages between knowledge and action. As a communication researcher, she draws inspiration from the idea that we can make better, more informed decisions about how we shape our collective future. Her research focuses on environmental sustainability communication and seeks to understand how we can support effective stakeholder engagement and communicate science effectively.
Dr. Lindenfeld's work appears in a range of journals, including Science Communication, Ecology & Society, Environmental Communication, Sustainability Science, Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies, and Food & Foodways. Her latest co-authored book, Science Communication for Scientists: Linking Strategy with Creativity, Practice, and Respect synthesizes the evidence underpinning the Alda Method and equips professionals with strategies shown to deepen understanding and shift conversations in meaningful ways. The open-access textbook is the first of its kind, focused specifically on science communication.
